Coach Lewis Says Goodbye

Updated: Click the following for video footage from Fox13

Dear Parents:

Last week, Coach Lewis and his family asked for me to come to their house and meet with them. At that meeting, he informed me that he would be stepping down as our Varsity Head Football Coach at the conclusion of this season. He has been coaching for 42 years, and started our football program from the ground up 6 years ago, but he feels it is time to begin the next phase of his life. As many of you are aware, Coach Lewis has been battling Parkinson's disease for the past few years, and although  he is doing pretty well overall, the battle does take a toll on a person from both a physical and emotional perspective.

We love and appreciate Coach Lewis and his family very much, and we are so grateful for all he has done in leading our football program all these years. With that being said, we have deemed this Thursday's game to be "Coach Lewis Night." We want to take this evening to recognize him and his family for their faithful service and sacrifice to SCA. The game will take place at Tampa Bay Vo-Tech, and we are asking everyone to arrive by 6:30 pm, so we can begin the ceremony at that time. We also have ordered some special t-shirts to honor him that will be for sale in the school office, beginning Wednesday morning. Students who purchase these will be allowed to wear them with jeans to school on Thursday. The shirts will be available on a first-come, first serve basis, and the cost is $10 per shirt.

We are asking for your help in spreading the word of this special night throughout the community. Coach Lewis has been coaching in Hillsborough County since 1992, so there are a number of former players who live throughout the bay area who would want to know this information and be able to attend. We are hoping for the largest crowd in the history of our school to be in attendance!

In conclusion, please remember Coach and his family in prayer. This was a difficult decision for all of them, but one that they feel is the right one to make. Thank you for all of your help and support, and we look forward to honoring Coach Lewis on Thursday!
